Elisabeth Wilson, Divisive visionary: Charles Frederick Reeve, Indian missions pioneer

Published: Tuesday, 4 August 2020

Dr Elisabeth Wilson speaks about evangelist, Charles Frederick Reeve. She tells us about Reeve's career as an evangelist and Bible teacher with the Christian Brethren in Tasmania during the 1880s, before founding the Poona and Indian Village Mission in the 1890s. She explores his background and Tasmanian experience, and then analyses what happened to the mission in India in the early 20th century.

Elisabeth Wilson researched the impact of major British evangelists in Australia in the late nineteenth century for her PhD. She has a related interest in the history of the Christian Brethren, so this paper links both fields of study.
