The British Empire found transportation a convenient method of getting rid of criminals and continued it to Van Diemen's Land for fifty years, ruthlessly trying to crush increasing opposition to it by a determined majority of colonists. This talk describes their battle to rid themselves of British criminals and obtain self-government.
