Ros Escott has eclectic interests and has been volunteering in various capacities for nearly 50 years, with a particular interest in women’s issues and health. She has a long-standing interest in family history, especially using DNA to help people untangle mysteries, and was in the first group of graduates with a UTAS Diploma in family history. She is particularly interested in the life stories of female convicts and the social conditions of that era in VDL; she volunteers with both the Female Convicts Research Centre and Convict Women’s Press. In 2023, Ros was inducted onto the Tasmanian Women’s Honour Roll ‘for service to volunteering and health’ and awarded an AM for ‘significant services to women’s health, and to the community’.
